There are a number of reality competition shows I just don’t get (don’t even get me started on the ridiculousness that is “Cupcake Wars”), but here’s one that actually looks intelligent, entertaining, and, best of all, can provide inspiration and practical advice for aspiring makeup artists: It’s called Face Off, and it premieres tonight on the Syfy Network.

The show pits 12 professional makeup artists against one another to compete in increasingly challenging makeup design competitions, including doing a full-body paint job on a model and crafting their own original horror villains. The contest

It’s been barely a week since the news broke that Gwen Stefani is the new face of L’Oréal Paris, and already the platinum bombshell is making her red-lipped mark across magazines and television screens. Her first commercial for Infallible Le Rouge Lipcolour debuted this past Sunday during the Golden Globes (in case you missed it, you can watch it here), and her print ads for the lipstick are splashed throughout the February glossies. There are two reasons to love this reddish-coral lipstick: 1) It’s richly pigment for vibrant, full-on color, and 2) it’s quite possibly the most comfortable matte lipstick you’ll ever try. I swear. This is because the formula uses a light-diffusing gel as opposed to drying powders to create the matte finish, and also contains waxes and emollients for a creamy feel.
