Tags: Pioneer, Pioneer Skirts

Images via WWD Fashion just loves to throw curveballs. The goody-goody girls from “Little House on the Prairie” as this season’s trendsetters?! Never thought I’d see the day. This pioneer look leans more towards foxy Amish babe (I never thought I’d put those words in the same sentence!) than the Laura Ashley floral-wearing Elaine from “Seinfeld.” Long skirts that verge on dowdy need to be styled just so: a skin-tight black bodysuit (perhaps a vintage Donna Karan), a simple tucked-in tank, or a cropped tee – but no more than an inch of torso on display, please, or you’ll confuse everyone with your unbalanced look – all work.

Believe it or not, a woman in my gym has been working out in a long skirt not unlike the blue chambray version above for years. Who knew she was so ahead of trends? All along, I thought I was the most stylish gal on the elliptical. Just goes to show fashion is a force driven by enigma. Below are skirts that are more modern chick with a twist of Civil War-era drama than ruddy female farmhand. Jason Wu for Runway to Green Tulle Maxi Skirt. On Net-a-Porter for $3,050.
