Tags: Bra

Trust me, I never thought there would come a day when I’d say, “That bra would make a great top for my wide-legged pants.” (I definitely sided with Elaine over her exhibitionist frenemy Sue Ellen Mischke, if you happen to recall the “Seinfeld” episode). But today I proclaim it, loud and proud!

I should have known it would be VPL – if the acronym for Visible Panty Line doesn’t give you a hint, nothing will – to make me think twice about the whole underwear-as-outerwear idea. Victoria Bartlett’s “Insertion” bra is no mere “bra.” (Like the one Gaga sported at her concert here in Taiwan. Hers is an actual Hanes type, so utilitarian it should never see the light of day.) Generous coverage, grosgrain paneling, and fierce color-blocking announces this bra is meant to be seen. Of course, it’s probably best worn under a jacket – tuxedo, leather, or cropped – to show off just enough flesh and flesh-toned undergarment. But I’m okay with you pairing it with a pair of high-waisted, wide-legged pants…I might even commend you! At Barneys New York for $95.

Pair with: Especially if they are dramatic, tailored, and by Yves Saint Laurent. An extra-thick and extra-high waistband ensure these cashmere trousers will keep your mid-section (relatively) covered. On Net-a-Porter for $1,590.
